Overview
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) adds an additional layer of security to your account. This guide outlines two ways to set it up: either when prompted by your brokerage or through your profile settings.
Method 1: Prompt from Brokerage
What Will You See?
If your brokerage requires 2FA, upon logging in, you'll see a message stating, "Your Brokerage requires Two-Factor Authentication to be set up." Below this message, you'll find a "Set Up 2FA" button.
Steps to Enable
1) Click "Set Up 2FA": This takes you to the setup page.
2) Download Authenticator App: Download Google Authenticator or another authenticator app onto your mobile device.
3) Scan QR Code: Use the app to scan the displayed QR code.
4) Enter Verification Code: Input the 6-digit code generated by the app.
5) Click "Enable 2FA": Complete the setup.
Method 2: Through Profile Settings
1) Open My Profile: At the top right of the page, select your name → My Profile.
2) Click the "2FA" Tab: This will bring you to the same 2FA setup page as above.
Follow steps 2-5 from the first method to complete the setup.
After Setup
Once 2FA is enabled, you'll need to enter a verification code from your authenticator app each time you log in. You'll also have the option to remember your device for 2 weeks.
Why Use 2FA?
- Improved Security: Enhances account protection.
- Compliance: May be required by your brokerage or regulatory bodies.
